Gripping survival thriller and psychological horror film from director Walter Hill. A group of National Guardsmen on a training exercise in the Louisiana bijou fall foul of the local Cajuns after they requisition their canoes and fire at them for a prank. The Cajuns enact their revenge by hunting down the guardsmen and killing them one-by-one turning their military exercise into a fight for survival.

Set almost entirely in the Louisiana swamp, Southern Comfort features vivid location cinematography by Andrew Lazlo and a moody, threatening score from Ry Cooder. The ensemble cast is led by Keith Carradine as the cocky, laid-back Spencer, Fred Ward as the volatile Reece, and Powers Boothe in his breakthrough performance as the squad’s new member, Hardin. Cult actor Brion James is absolutely convincing as a French-speaking Cajun trapper. Southern Comfort builds to a nerve-wracking climax as the surviving guardsmen are forced to confront their tormentors for a fight to the death.

Due to convoluted rights issues and the lack of suitable film materials Southern Comfort has been absent from UK cinemas for decades. Lost Reels is proud to bring this thrilling, expertly crafted thriller back to the big screen from a new previously unseen 4K restoration.
